I rejected Akufo-Addo’s money but... – Amin Anta
A former Municipal Chief Executive in Tamale, Mohammed Amin Anta has admitted that NPP flagbearer hopeful Nana Akufo-Addo, offered him money, but the money was not to support his bid to become the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).His comment follows a secret audio recording in circulation, which purportedly has Amin Anta’s voice confessing that Nana Addo offered him US$5,000 in an envelope.
The said tape also alleges that Nana Addo offered Amin Anta three positions to join his camp.
Mr. Anta in a press release said that “the voice is like mine and I might have made such statements in a private conversation,” he however indicated that his support for Nana Addo “is unconditional” and not induced by money.
Amin Anta insisted that the conversation on the secret tape happened before the Supreme Court Petition; and could not have been related to the party’s impending National Delegates Congress.
He also said he rejected the money and the offer.
“Also, everybody in the NPP knows that I did not support Nana Addo in previous internal elections and I did believe that the party needed to do more work for him to win the general elections including the 2016 elections,” he added.
“I am therefore surprised that the said tape is being used to question my credibility and support for Nana Addo. However, I have studied and worked with Nana Addo closely for some time now and came to the realisation that he is the right person to lead the NPP,” Amin stated.
Earlier, spokesperson for Alan Kyeremanteng, Nana Ohene Ntow alleged the existence of some secret audio recordings which indicates that top party officials of the NPP doubt the capabilities of Nana Akufo-Addo of winning the 2016 presidential election.
Ohene Ntow also alleged that he also has tape recordings of some NPP bigwigs who have publicly declared their support for the presidential flagbearer hopeful, Nana Addo.
The comment by Nana Ohene Ntow has been met with mixed reactions from party officials.
